Observe to adjust. Adjust to sustain autonomy.

Through Montessori tutoring, I help children ages 6–12 explore ideas, make connections, and discover the world with curiosity. Through parent coaching, I help families better understand their children and navigate everyday challenges with confidence, connection, and respect.

Understanding the Child in the Second Plane (Ages 6–12)

Maria Montessori described human development in four distinct stages, or planes, each with its own needs and ways of experiencing the world. The second plane, from ages 6 to 12, marks a shift from learning primarily through the senses to exploring the world through imagination, reasoning, and a growing curiosity about how everything connects.

At this age, children begin asking bigger questions, developing a strong sense of fairness, seeking belonging among peers, and wanting greater independence. They don't just want to know what. They want to understand why.

What does this look like in everyday life?

Questioning rules: When a child asks, "Why do I have to do this?", they may be looking for a logical explanation rather than challenging your authority. Understanding the purpose behind a rule helps children develop reasoning and cooperation.

A growing sense of justice: "That's not fair!" becomes a familiar phrase. These moments are opportunities to explore fairness, different perspectives, and the needs of others.

Seeking real responsibility: Planning a family meal, managing a small budget, or organizing an outing allows children to contribute meaningfully while developing independence and practical skills.

Friendships and belonging: Relationships with peers become increasingly important. Working through disagreements helps children develop empathy, communication, and social responsibility.

A curiosity that connects everything: A child's question about where rain comes from can lead to geography, the water cycle, the history of civilizations along rivers, and even mathematics through measuring rainfall. This is the essence of Montessori's Cosmic Education, where different areas of knowledge come together to reveal how the world works.

How I Support Children and Families

Through Montessori tutoring, I create individual and small-group learning experiences that connect mathematics, language, science, history, and geography. Using hands-on materials and meaningful investigations, I help children strengthen academic skills while developing curiosity, confidence, and the pleasure of learning.

Through parent coaching, I help families understand the developmental needs behind everyday behaviours and translate that understanding into practical changes at home. Together, we explore boundaries, responsibilities, communication, and ways to support growing independence.

Both approaches share the same purpose: to help children understand themselves, discover the world, and grow into capable, thoughtful, and independent individuals.
